The Daniel High School Lions soccer team faced a tough challenge at T.L. Hanna last Tuesday in their first outing of the season. While the score may not have reflected it, Daniel engaged in a fast-paced, physical game that proved to be a worthy test to begin the year.
Although Daniel had no success in finding the back of the net, striker Matthew Maloney and midfielder Kris Luo helped pepper the opposition’s keeper. On the Lions side, first time Varsity goalie Branton Huss had 5 saves.
“They haven’t had a chance to play together on the field yet and that’s what it looked like,” coach Phillip Boyer said. “Its a great opportunity for us to work hard and to improve quickly. And now, over the next two weeks, we’ll work our tails off and get ready for the tournament we’re hosting on February 15th.”
The Lions have their first home game against Carolina High on February 13th and will play in the aforementioned Winter Warriors Classic at Southern Wesleyan University on February 15th.
